v.19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God,
v.20 Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the POWER that worketh in us. (Ephesians 3:19-20)
Power means God’s almighty energy.
This is talking about the Holy Spirit at work in us. When we got saved we were born of the Spirit and we continue to need the Holy Spirit to work in us daily. Why would God send the Holy Spirit to the church (body of Christ) if we didn’t need Him? The Holy Spirit was at work in the life and ministry of Jesus. He is the third person in the Trinity and He is still here today. He won’t force His gifts on you. He goes where He is welcome and longs for the Body of Christ to accept everything that He makes available to each one of us.
He teaches us His Word, the Bible. We need Him to help us understand the Bible and everything that is related to the kingdom of God. We need power to be victorious in spiritual warfare. Too many Christian’s are going into spiritual warfare being unarmed and without the gifts of the Spirit.
For the WEAPONS of our warfare are not CARNAL, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. (2 Corinthians 10:4)
This passage is talking about taking power and authority over the devil and controlling our thoughts. There are times when we are unable to resist the devil on our own power. So we need the Holy Spirit to give us His power and wisdom to help us to overcome.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST (Jude 20)
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries (1 Corinthians 14:2)
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself” (1 Corinthians 14:4)
Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. (1 Corinthians 14:12)
v.17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but UNDERSTANDING what the will of the Lord is.
v.18 “be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:17-18)
IT IS the will of God for us to be filled with the Spirit! Now that we have UNDERSTANDING let’s ask to be filled with the Spirit. Before Peter was filled with the Spirit he denied Jesus three times. After he was filled with the Spirit he boldly preached to thousands on the Day of Pentecost. (Acts 2) Read Acts 3 how Peter preached to the crowd when the lame man was healed. Read Acts 4 how Peter spoke with boldness to the Jewish leaders.
